Dining in Comfort and Style
The Dining Room is one of my favorite rooms in the house. We were able to incorporate the table and chairs that have been handed down from my mom and dad. My husband and I were fortunate enough to have the table and chairs refinished as a wedding present from my parents. I am so happy to be able to incorporate these pieces into our home as it means so much to our family. I am hoping that refinishing them will keep them in our family for many more years to come.
The light fixture was one of the first ones that my husband and I changed once we moved in. The builder had installed a silver light fixture that we just were not huge fans of. I found this one on Joss & Main and couldn't be happier with the choice. I think it totally changed the feel of the room and really anchored the space as a dining room.
The area rug is from Overstock.com and I was pretty happy about the quality for the price. It's large, 7x10, which is what I was looking for to really separate the space from the kitchen and great room in the color. The color is called light blue on the site, but it looks more like a blue grey to me. I like the color that it brings to the room since we decided to keep the wall color neutral. My husband and I reupholstered the 4 chairs that were part of the dining table set. Since we only had 4 chairs from the original dining room set, I set out in search for two end chairs. I wanted them to be neutral so that if we ever wanted to reupholster the other chairs again, they would go with anything. Since the dining room is right next to the kitchen, I also wanted to make sure we kept some consistency between the two spaces so I decided to get the same chairs as the ones from the kitchen. After many searches, I founds these chairs at Target. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of these chairs. They were cheap enough that I would not be devastated if they got stained but pretty enough that they make me happy just looking at them.
The orange table in the back is from Ikea. We tried several options but this one seems to work the best as it was long but skinny. I also think that the orange brings in nice color to the space since we decided to not paint the walls. Above it we hung a painting that we found at Bed Bath and Beyond. I think the colors of the painting are nice and subtle so it doesn't compete with the orange table.
On the right side of the dining room, right off the kitchen is the bar area. The bar itself is from Crate & Barrel. It is a great option for us because we don't have a lot of room, but when entertaining, this bar can open up to allow for a lot more entertaining! Above the bar we hung a reclaimed wine bottle and glass shelf that we received as a present for our wedding. The wood was from an old farm and we love the history that it has. Definitely helps to provide some wall interest!
So far that is it for this room! I think I still need some decorations on the walls to spice it up, but I haven't found anything I truly love. I rather wait and take my time with it so that I find pieces that I won't get bored with after a couple of months.
Stay tuned for updates!
